My name is Ben Midanek and I’m the dude who started 4sight Sunglasses.
Last summer I traveled in South America and East Africa, and as I went from place to place I realized something was missing. No one was wearing glasses. I tried to think of an explanation – maybe poor vision is a rich-world problem like food allergies or maybe they were wearing contacts? – but I wasn’t satisfied. As I talked to people and did some research, I was shocked to discover the extent of the problem: 1.3 billion people currently live without the glasses they need. Think about that for a second: 1 in 5 people in the world can’t see clearly.
As I learned about eye care I felt moved to help, and I figured other people would too. But it wasn’t until that moment that I realized something that surprised me – I didn’t know how to help. So I started 4sight Sunglasses with the goal of making it easier for people to act on their good intentions. I knew the experience had to be as tangible and personal as possible, so I decided to build the whole company around one idea: for every pair of 4sight sunglasses sold, we give a new pair of corrective glasses to a person in need. 1.3 billion is an intimidating number, so I wanted to focus on the number that really matters: one. Maybe you can’t help everyone, but you can change one person’s life right now, and that’s an amazing accomplishment.
From the beginning, 4sight has been blessed to have the support and enthusiasm of many caring, dedicated people. I am grateful for the kindness and excitement 4sight’s story has generated, and for the opportunity it has afforded me to do something I love so much. I hope you’ll take a look around and considering purchasing some of our sweet sunglasses, and, as always, feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or if you want to say hi! Thank you.
